Black Friday 2026 falls on Friday, November 27, with Cyber Monday on November 30. For chess players, the biggest discounts usually land on AI and smart chess boards: last year several models dropped 20–30% below their regular price. Tournament sets, clocks, and chess books get smaller but reliable cuts, and Chess.com has offered 50% off Premium memberships for the past two Black Fridays.
Below are the chess products trending in 2026 that are worth watching, what they cost today, and what they sold for during Black Friday 2025, so you can tell a real deal from a marketing one.

When do Black Friday 2026 chess deals start?
Many chess retailers start early. Last year, smart board makers such as ChessUp launched their sales in the first half of November, while the deepest Amazon discounts appeared in the week of Black Friday itself. Chess.com announced its 2025 sale on the Monday of Black Friday week, and it stayed live until early December. Cyber Monday is usually the last chance for digital deals.
- Early November: first smart board and accessory deals.
- November 23–27: the main wave, including subscription sales.
- November 30, Cyber Monday: last push, mostly software and subscriptions.
Trend #1: AI and smart chess boards
AI-powered chess boards are the product category that defines 2026. They fall into three groups: light-guided boards that teach you with LEDs, boards with a built-in engine and screen that work without a phone, and self-moving boards whose pieces move on their own. These are also the items with the biggest Black Friday discounts, so they are worth tracking closely. For full reviews, see our guide to the best electronic chess boards in 2026.

Self-moving boards are the most talked-about chess gadget of 2026. Compact robotic boards such as the SenseRobot Vega are also new this year, but stock is limited.

Trend #2: tournament sets and chess clocks
Over-the-board chess keeps growing alongside online play, and a tournament-standard set with a clock is one of the most common Black Friday purchases for club players and parents of young players.

Trend #3: wooden and magnetic chess sets

- Magnetic wooden chess set, 15 inches (Hurdaos): $39.99 today, $31.99 on Black Friday 2025. A folding board that doubles as storage.
- Chess Armory magnetic travel set, 9.5 inches: $16.99. Small enough for a backpack.
- WE Games luxury walnut and sycamore set, 21.75 inches: $462.00. A premium piece for display and serious play.

Trend #4: chess books from content creators
Chess creators now sell books as well as courses. Levy "GothamChess" Rozman's How to Win at Chess is one of the most popular chess books on Amazon, with nearly 4,000 reviews, and its new follow-up, How to Win at Chess, Next Level, is aimed at intermediate players. Books tend to get modest Black Friday cuts, but they are easy gifts to pair with a board.

Chess.com Black Friday 2026: what to expect
Chess.com offered 50% off Premium memberships on Black Friday in both 2024 and 2025. Last year the sale went live on Monday, November 24, and ran until early December. The discount covered the first billing period only, applied to new Premium members, and did not include gift, Student, or Friends & Family plans. If the pattern holds, expect the 2026 offer around November 23 on the Chess.com membership page. Students can get 50% off any plan all year. If you prefer free tools, Lichess is fully free and does not run sales, and ChessBase users should check its online shop during Black Friday week.
How to tell a real Black Friday chess deal
- Compare with last year's price. Use the table above: a "30% off" label means little if the regular price went up first.
- Check the seller. Smart boards sold by the brand's official store or by Amazon are easier to return and keep their warranty.
- Look at the bundle. Some smart boards come with a case or premium pieces during sales, which can be worth more than a small price cut.
- Don't wait for the last day. Popular smart boards were low on stock before Black Friday last year.
